My name is Emily, and I am a foodoholic.
Looking back at my childhood photos, I always asked my parents why they did not have any pictures of me without food smothered all over my face. Their answer- it was impossible.
I have loved food since I could remember. While most teens were watching The O.C. or Gossip Girl, I was watching the Food Network. I knew more about Rachel Ray and Giada de Laurentiis, then I did about NSYNC and the Spice Girls. When I learned that I could actually study food in University, I knew my life of eating was meant for something. After many years in school, I now have my BSc in Food, Nutrition, and Health and a MSc in Public Health Nutrition.
My Inspiration
In my final year of my undergrad along came my now husband, Mark. As a typical university guy, his diet involved way too many frozen tv dinners and instant noodles. I won him and his questionable food choices over more and more with every yummy meal- from chicken tacos to beef wellington and everything in between. The meals we were able to cook with and for each other are some of our favourite memories.
That is what Home Cooked for ME is all about. Cooking meals at home from scratch is not only something I enjoy for myself anymore but for the both of us. ME is the two of us, Mark and Emily- and we are on this crazy journey of life together. We enjoy being able to try something brand new or recreating a dish that reminds us of our first anniversary. Is there really anything better than a meal cooked by the one you love?
This blog is a chronicle of food that ME (Mark+Emily) cooks and eats. Sometimes it is ultra healthy, and sometimes it is a deep fried creamy decadent dish. Either way it is full of flavour and we enjoy every bite. If you are reading this then thanks! But otherwise this blog isn’t about viewers or likes. It’s about doing what we love together, eating delicious food, and having fun along the way.
Recipe Reminder
The way I learned to cook and love it was by being inspired by food. My eyes always seem drawn to cookbooks, even when my sagging bookshelf is urging me to stop. The stories weaved inbetween tantalising photos, always leaves me with an excitement for my next meal.
I have learned from my mum that following a recipe with a microscope is not cooking for you. Although I may provide recipes with specific measurements, think of it as guidelines. I want my cooking to be an inspiration to you. Sometimes dishes seem too challenging when in reality, they can be super easy if you just allow yourself a bit of time, patience, and nibbling along the way.
