These jalapeno lime turkey burgers will change your mind that turkey burgers are boring and dry. Unfortunately too often they can be, due to the lower fat content, as compared with a traditional beef burger. Every time I have had one at a restaurant it always seems to pale in comparison to all the other burger options on the menu. And instead relied on the toppings to give the dish any flavour. This recipe on the other hand provides all the flavour punch you need and are definitely not dry. The lime gives it a fresh acidity, while the jalapeno lends a spicy kick.
To me they somewhat feel and taste like a taco in the body of a turkey burger. You have the lime, the jalapeno, fresh cilantro, garlic. So I enjoyed mine with one of my favourite taco toppings: pickled red onions. However, feel free to mix up your burger add ons- try guacamole, a fresh tomato slice, or even grilled pineapple.
Jalapeno Lime Turkey Burgers
Ingredients
- 454g ground turkey
- 1 jalapeno, seeds removed, finely diced
- 1 tbsp chopped cilantro
- 1 tsp lime zest
- 1 tbsp lime juice
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup panko
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- S+P
Directions
- Step 1 Combine all ingredients in a medium sized bowl. I use a fork to first break down the turkey and egg yolk. It should be well combined and look almost paste like.
- Step 2 To test the seasoning create a small meatball using about 1/2 tbsp of the mixture and cooking it on the stove. Adjust spice, lime and seasoning to your liking.
- Step 3 Create 6 sliders or 4 burgers and place on parchment lined plates or baking sheet. Place in the fridge to set up for about 30 minutes.
- Step 4 Heat 1 tbsp canola/grapeseed oil in a a saute pan on the stove. Once hot, add turkey burgers and cook for about 8 minutes-flipping about 3/4 the way through. Or until cooked all the way through.
- Step 5 Top burgers with toppings of your liking, I chose pickled onion, avocado and spinach!
